The Meaning
This piece is entitled "The Music of America" because it is inspired by the beauty and motion of the major social, cultural, and scientific movements that have shaped American history and literature. The square panels found around the piece are meant to be both representations and lenses through which to view these movements and inspire reflection upon our own understandings of America.
The Process
The concept for this piece was created by students in the American Experience class during the 2017-2018 school year. It was then designed in collaboration with Saihou Njie. The piece was created using a combination of paint, canvas, and batik.
